RIO LGBT Pride New Date

The Grupo Arco-Iris, organizers of the 14th Rio de Janeiro Gay Pride Parade has postponed the march to Sunday, November 1st, 2009. falls

The new date has to do with the broad agenda of cultural, social and political institutions involved in the official program of the 14th Gay Pride LGBT-Rio as well as with the swine flu. With 1,5 million people expected from various countries, the organizers expect to reduce the risks of the flu.

“The Arco-Iris Group’s mission is to help improve the quality of living and that means we can not be omitted before a serious public health problem, given our history of preventive actions in STD/HIV/AIDS”, says Gilza Rodrigues, the group’s President.

It’s going to be worth the wait. The organizers added:  The 2009 Rio LGBT Parade will take place in Copacabana Beach, with many nice surprises. For the first time, we have the cooperation of the three spheres of government in a very proactive way: city, state and federal agencies, with the use of theaters and venues managed by government such as Teatro João Caetano, Teatro Gláucio Gil and Teatro Carlos Gomes.

The 14th Gay Pride LGBT-Rio is sponsored by the Federal Government, through Petrobras, the state government of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Departments of Social Welfare and Human Rights, Culture, Tourism and Sports, Health and Civil Defense, the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, through the Departments of Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Culture, Health & Welfare, and the private sector has the support of Vale, the giant producer of steel.

Like Borat used to say: “Great Success!”.
