21 Years of Success

The Rio de Janeiro Brazil Gay Pride Parade and its associated events are organized by the NGO Arco-Iris, since its foundation in May 21, 1993.

Based in Rio de Janeiro, A non-profit organization, the Grupo Arco-Iris (Rainbow) mission is to fight for a more just and inclusive society, which recognizes equal rights for all. The association has served to promote citizenship and self-esteem of LGBT by conducting and encouraging activities of all kinds.

The 20 years of success reflect the seriousness of the organization with its principles and goals.

The Group is one of the founders of the Brazilian Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender - ABGLT. The Group Arco-Iris also carries out various activities, parties, soirees, fairs, seminars, research, and the largest and most significant event of the LGBT community in our state: The LGBT Pride Parade-Rio, in Copacabana.

Performance and Activities

An Institution without partisan attachments, the Group works together with partners in the formulation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies, and presentation and discussion of draft laws that recognize and guarantee the LGBT citizenship.

In over 20 years of work, managed, along with its partners, the city and state of Rio de Janeiro, to published the following laws:

City Law No. 2475/1996 - Sets penalties for discriminatory practices on grounds of sexual orientation in commercial establishments and public agencies in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. de todo o Brasil. In December 2006, coordinated the 1st National Meeting of Afrosdecendentes LGBT, held in Rio with more than 120 people from all over Brazil.
State Law N º 3406/2000 - Sets penalties for discriminatory practices on grounds of sexual orientation in commercial establishments and public agencies in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Municipal Law No. 3786/2002 - Extend the right to pension partners of servers / the public / homosexuals in Rio de Janeiro.
State Law N º 215/2007 - Extend the right to pension partners of servers / the public / homosexuals in the state of Rio de Janeiro

Besides these, the Rainbow Group, in partnership with other LGBT organizations, led by the Brazilian Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender - ABGLT, works to mobilize the LGBT community, opinion leaders and civil society as a whole, at the Chamber of Deputies and Senate, approval of the bill PLC 122/2006 - which proposes to criminalize the practice of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and the bill proposing the recognition of civil union between persons of the same sex.
